Our top 5 things to do in the 3 most popular northern cities of Laos; Luang Prabang, Vang Vieng and Vientiane.

Luang Prabang Kuang Si Falls

Around an hours drive from Luang Prabang, easily accessible by tuk tuk or moped. Tip: Get there early when it opens at 8am to have the falls to yourselves.

Vang Vieng Nam Xay

This is the one thing you must do in Vang Vieng. The climb is pretty difficult - See us tackle it here but the view is so worth it.

Luang Prabang Wat Si or AIms Giving

Between 5.30am and 6.30am every morning the monks pass through the centre of town collecting offerings along the way. It’s quite a spectacle to see.

Vang Vieng Rice Paddy Field

This is now a particularly hard picture to get but it’s so worth trying. Even just to sit and have a drink at the Vieng Tara Villa’s and witness the fields is quite amazing. Alternatively you can book a stay in the Vieng Tara Villa’s for a guaranteed picture moment or two.

Vientiane Temples

Vientiane is home to many temples. All hold a unique story and one was once home to the Emerald Buddha that now sits in Thailand. Definitely worth while getting a guide and exploring them all and most are free to enter. The very few that do charge rarely charge over $1.
