From glamping to cabins, air-streamers to treehouses, they promise to deliver a totally unique and quirky escape across the UK.
Lovely Mrs Higgs is a hideaway like no other. Completely secluded, totally off-grid and definitely one-of-a-kind. Nestled in the depths of ancient woodland, this quirky house dating back to 1835 had been lovingly restored, with historic and original features found throughout. One of their newer and most desirable additions is a wood-fired hot tub perfect for slow evenings and star-gazing with a glass of something delicious.
If you truly are seeking an off-grid hideaway then this house is for you. Hidden too far into the woodland to be connected to the mains, heating comes from wood-burners in each room and solar energy powers the lights and fridge/freezer. A vintage gas cooker is installed for cooking and water is pumped up from the original well (additional drinking water is provided).
This modest two-story stone built house offers 2 bedrooms, one double and one twin for family or friends to stay. Downstairs is where you’ll find the minimal but efficient kitchen and living area. Continuing the off-grid nature of the property there is, perhaps obviously to some, no Wi-Fi or TV. Mrs Higgs invites you to truly unplug, unwind and connect with nature. Evenings can be enjoyed playing one of the many board games or slipping into the large outdoor wood-fired hot tub. If your plan is the latter be prepared, the tub takes around 3 hours to heat up so best to get it started in plenty of time before darkness falls. There is a wooden outhouse with a large hot power shower, flushing WC and wash basin at the back of the house, to enter leave through the top level door and head towards the purpose built fire wood storage hut.
The location is truly what makes this hideout a peaceful paradise. Within immediate proximity are plenty of spaces to sit and watch the world go by, from the hand-crafted alfresco dining table and fire-pit area to inviting benches positioned either side of the main stable door. The only neighbours you’ll have to worry about are wild deer, owls, maybe the occasional badger and free roaming pheasants. There are plenty of walking trails direct from your doorstep however if you’re in need of civilisation, Mrs Higgs is situated within a short-drive to the Cathedral City of Hereford, the picturesque village of Pembrokeshire and the historic Hay-on-Wye; world renowned for books and bookshops.
