Kip Hideaways | Cynefin Retreats

During a balmy summer week in June, we booked a unique escape to Kip Hideaways Cynefin Retreats on the Welsh / English border. Staying in a handcrafted ‘Luxe Lodge’ with the aim to spend a few nights both together and surrounded by the Welsh countryside in their self-proclaimed immersive indoor - outdoor accommodation.

Their 2 bedroom Luxe Lodges are perfect for families, offering open plan living, kitchen and dining areas downstairs and two spacious bedrooms upstairs connected by a large family bathroom. The lodge itself harmoniously sits within the surrounding woodland and meadows. The outdoors truly does feel part of the indoors with expansive, sleek square windows framing the views from the top floor and retractable glass doors leading out to a private decking complete with hot tub, outdoor dining and a fire pit.

The extra family friendly touches throughout made the stay especially inviting for our girls too, with an under-the-stairs den with binoculars, books and animal toys. A jar filled with marshmallows and skewers for toasting over the fire pit, plus outdoor tree wrapped swings around every corner, it was a child’s perfect getaway.

Being here, you feel a million miles from anywhere but surprisingly close to convenience and the historic market town of Hay-on-Wye, famed as a book lovers paradise and a must visit for meandering their picturesque cafe-lined lanes.

2 nights simply wasn’t enough, we loved every minute. A second trip is most definitely pending…
