Voyage through Indochina
We spent 3 days voyaging through time in the company of MGallery by Sofitel and Sofitel Luang Prabang. Our journey began in the dawn of ages when serpentine spirits, nagas, began their watch over the ancient city. 3 Nagas MGallery by Sofitel has dedicated their hotels unique story to this tale. It is home to 15 spacious rooms and suites situated at the tip of the main Sisavangvong Road. From here your can happily navigate your way though a patchwork of colourful street markets, explore the religious temples and cultural sites near by.
One particular spectacle to see is the long-standing Laos buddhist tradition of Sai Bat or AIms giving. Each morning dozens of monks make their descent down to Wat Xiengthong temple collecting food offerings from devotees and locals as they pass by. Beginning at 5.30am it is definitely worth the early morning call.
Hôtel Sofitel Luang Prabang carries the same warm hospitality as its MGallery cousin. Found across town, this former French Governor’s residence is located in a protected UNESCO World Heritage site. The enchanting botanical garden leads off to 25 luxury suites, all complete with private gardens and either a pool or gazebo and oversized bathtub.
A large amethyst-tiled pool is the perfect place to relax after a day exploring the morning markets, waterfalls near by or trying your hand at re-creating local Thai dishes by joining their weekly cooking classes on offer.
Free bicycle rentals and an in-house fully equipped gym make for an active retreat, or choose to laze away the hours in one of the many hammocks found perfectly places in amongst the gardens. For dinner, enjoy a mix of French luxury and local cuisine whilst you watch the stars come out under the focal tented restaurant.

The city is filled with Lao traditions and unspoilt culture and deserves time to be explored, embraced and indulged. You’ll feel immediately welcomed in a place that seems relatively untouched by the passage of time. Luang Prabang, you were lovely.
